Fantastic

Comment of July 6, 2016. Couple from Hong Kong.
We actually wanted to come visit this place just for the gardens but found out that the chateau was a property you could stay in and went for it. Classic French property.
Marie (the owner) was very warm and came to chat in the evening with us over cherries and champagne.
We stayed in the suite de France, beautiful room overlooking the gardens. Breakfast was plentiful and good.
The staff helped us book dinner in a nearby town (the chateau is quite remotely located).
Memorable stay.
Thank you Marie and her team.Séjour du juillet 2016 - voyage en amoureux

Marie-Françoise , she is a wonderful host . She gave us a very warm welcome when we arrived . She provided the information about the chateau and a useful information during our stay .She can help us everthing that we ask for. So she made our stay in this beautiful Chateau feel like home . We still appreciate and miss you .

Due to no restuarant in this chateau Marie also recommended the restaurant in Combourg for our dinner and arranged the dinner booking for us .It doesn't matter for us to have dinner far away (about 20 kms) because we have a car. On the other hand, it 's a good opportunity to explore the other village nearby . We had a good food with a lake view in  Restaurant du Chateau in Combourg.

Chateau de la ballue is one of four chateau in France that we stayed .We feel this one is the most authentic Chateau. The Chateau situate in a quiet , greenery and natural place. We stayed for 2 nights in '' Perse room ". I like the decoration in this room . Everything is maintained in detail. The bed is very comfort and we had a tight sleep. In the morning the garden view from the window is awesome . We can wake up late and don't hurry for breakfast . Breakfast is gorgeous and there are a variety of choices. We feel like a royal in a breakfast room . For us ,it 's worth to have breakfast. The highlight of this stay is the garden. The garden is very beautiful and well maintained . We got a very nice picture from there. Thank you ...Marie. We will back again. Stay in May, 2016.

“Loved, loved, loved it”

I love to stay in accommodations full of character (preferably with a splash of luxury) and I am quite picky about it, too. But Chateau La Ballue is one of my very favourite places ever. The moment you cross the gate to stroll to the house through the front gardens, you travel back in time. Actually when coming down for breakfast served in elaborate dining room I would have not blinked twice had I seen some noble born ladies in petticoat dresses and serving maids scurrying about. But instead we used to find a lovely selection of pastries, jams, cheese and ham, fruit and cereal, and we could ask for cooked eggs, French toasties and fresh orange or grapefruit juice. We stayed in the Diane room, and it was as perfect as on the website, all creamy dreams with a delicate note of nostalgia. The bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom was much better than you could ever expect from the XVII century chateau. And then there were main gardens, too, splendidly sculptured and full of surprises. And after a nice stroll you could sip a tea or coffee over some brilliant fruit pie in the lovely tea rooms. The owners were very friendly and made us feel welcome and at ease, their dogs were the sweetest creatures ever and we loved every single moment of our stay there. You can tell the chateau is run by people with passion for this place and it is a real pearl for those who love authentic atmosphere and a healthy mixture of sophistication and simplicity. We cannot recommend this place enough and we are already planning our next visit ( We rarely visit the same place many times, but this chateau may become a big exception).
Oh, I nearly forgot, if you want to go back to our times for a while, there is a lovely swimming pool too in a secluded part of the gardens. So you can enjoy both worlds at the same time.Astuce pour la chambre : All rooms are lovely but I am in love with Diane
Autres astuces sur les chambres
Écologie: Very environmentally friendly, and you will find they environmental policy described in the room. Séjour du juillet 2016 - voyage en amoureux

Magical!

We had a very nice time in this magnificent 17th century château. We are history and culture buffs and our time was spent in a perfectly preserved period environment. We stayed in the Victor Hugo room, which was quite comfortable and tastefully decorated, including the wonderful canopy bed and the high quality "Horus" fixtures in the bathroom, the kind you would find in a 5 star hotel.
We were taken care of and spoiled from the moment we arrived to the cup of coffee we shared as we were leaving.
For those who enjoy staying in a château or just staying someplace really nice, make sure you remember the Château de la Ballue.

A simple life at the château

We want to thank Madame and Arlette for their warm welcome: the gardens are magnificent, full of surprises both artistic and natural .... we stayed in the Diane room, with its simple yet chic decor, the charm of the countryside (Jane Austen must have inspired this room) and the period fixtures in the bathroom ... Madame's dinner in the salon with opera playing in the background was excellent ... for those who may have been disappointed, maybe they didn't understand that they were in a real home, not one of those random awful tourist hotels (they were missing the Mickey D's at the corner!!). See you soon at the chateau

This is my first-ever write up for a hotel or restaurant we have stayed or eaten at. Like most all of us, we are on the go constantly and find little time to go the extra mile. However, I feel I must offer a review of our stay as it was absolutely off the charts. The pictures on the website show a beautiful and inviting chateau, but they really don't do it justice, not even close.

Our time at Chateau de la Ballue in mid-September was absolutely fantastic. From the warm welcome by Madame Mathon, to the beautiful and spacious Chambre Diane, the meticulous grounds and gardens, the wonderful essentially “private" dinner at Au Chant de L’alouette in the quaint little hamlet of Bazouges-La-Perouse right up the street …. And capped off with a most enjoyable French country breakfast the following morning. This chateau and what is has to offer is an A-plus-plus, no doubt. If we ever get back to the Normandy – Brittany area, we will be staying with Madame Mathon again.

I recommend Chateau de la Ballue whole-heartedly and without reservation……. We can't wait to get back.

“Hidden gem!”

Looking for a nice hotel near Mont Saint Michel gave us few choices. After much searching on the internet, I stumbled onto this Chateau which sparked my interest. Little did I realize that this was an interesting destination all by itself. Completely out in the beautiful countryside, we had a view of Mont St. Michel across the back yard out in the distance. This beautiful Chateau & Breakfast find was a wonderful surprise! The proprietor greeted us and gave us all the interesting history of the Chateau. Breakfast was divine, complete with homemade baked goods. You MUST visit the Gardens, she told us. We had no idea how entertaining gardens could be. We spent 2 hours wandering in amazement at the combination of landscape and beautiful sculptures. A series of mysterious passageways with 13 distinct surprises, the fabulous garden was a breath taking experience. Next time we will plan an extra day to explore the Chateau and gardens.
